What defines opera? This talk is an overview of this art form with listening samples spanning opera’s 400-year history. Attendees are introduced to some of opera’s most beloved stories and melodies as well as to some of history’s greatest singers. By the time you leave, you will feel confident in attending your first operatic experience.

Evelyn Nesbit was the first “It Girl,” the inspiration for the Gibson Girl, and she was the center of attention for two prominent New York City businessmen. Their obsessions with her beauty would lead to murder. This is a sordid story of lust, power, and jealousy that culminated in the 1907 “Trial of the Century.”
